Fifth wheels can be a confusing concept for new RVers. The fifth wheel RV is typically towed by pickup trucks with the appropriate “fifth wheel hitch.” The fifth wheel is one of the most popular RV types due to the spacious layout. They generally have taller ceilings and more slide out rooms. (Some come with as many as four).
After reading the general description some will find that they are intimidated; particularly if they are new to the RV industry. But the best thing about the fifth wheel’s spacious design is that it does not inhibit its maneuverability. The fifth wheel is actually pretty easy to handle. Many very quickly come to see them as a home away from home.
The home away from home concept is particularly apt with this specific RV type due to the fact that many RVers designate their camp spot or destination and then unhitch; creating a base point or home away from home in their chosen location. They are then free to roam about town in the pickup truck while their RV stays behind. It definitely gives the feeling of “coming home” at the end of a long day of sightseeing or shopping, etc.
And that’s when the real fun begins. Many find that vacationing in a recreational vehicle is far more relaxing than other types of travel because they can feel like they are coming home at the end of the day. They can pull out their favorite board game or deck of cards and relax with their family. They can take that bubble bath they decided was going to be necessary after hiking the falls. They can whip up their favorite comfort food in their own kitchen. That’s the wonder of the RV.
So get away from home, but take all the comforts of home with you. Stock your fifth wheel with the accoutrements that will be necessary as you navigate unknown regions and enjoy exciting adventures. And you’ll find that vacationing can be even better when you have all the best “pieces” of home right there with you.
